Chinese Pork in Plum Sauce Recipe

Simple Chinese pork in plum sauce, pork tenderloin coated in five spices and cooked in a delicious plum sauce flavoured with anise, ginger, lemon, soy and honey. This delicious dish is served with jasmine white rice,

Recipe Ingreds

Rice

  • 1 packet microwave white rice

pork

  • salt (to taste)
  • black pepper (to taste)
  • 4 tsp chinese five spice
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 250 grams pork tenderloin (fillet)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 0.5 whole lemon
  • 1 tsp Clear honey

sauce

  • 300 grams plums
  • 50 grams caster sugar
  • 1 whole star anise
  • 2 cm fresh ginger
  • 125 ml water

How to make Chinese pork in plum sauce

  • cut the pork fillet into bite size pieces
  • place the pork in a bowl
  • add the Chinese five spice to the bowl
  • coat the pork with the five spice
  • season with salt and pepper
  • set a side

step 2

  • cut the plums in half and remove the stones

Step 3

  • peel and grate the ginger
  • Add together the sauce ingredients in a medium pan
  • Bring to the boil and then turn down
  • cook for 15 mins to 20 mins

Step 4

  • Remove the star anise
  • blend the sauce with a hand liquidiser
  • set a side

Step 5

  • place the pork in the frying pan with the oil and fry till golden brown
  • add the plum sauce
  • squeeze the lemon(s) .
  • add the soy, half the lemon juice and honey to the frying pan
  • turn the heat down to low, place a lid on the pork, and cook until the pork fillet is tender and fully coated in the sauce.
  • taste the sauce add additional lemon juice to match personal taste
  • Check from time to time that the sauce is not too sticky add a little boiling water if necessary

Step 6

  • warm the precooked rice by following the instructions
  • place one serving of rice onto a plate

  • place the pork on top of the rice
