Profiteroles are small balls of choux pastry that are baked in the oven, they originate from France and are usually filled with whipped cream, custard or pastry cream. The profiteroles are usually topped with chocolate sauce or caramel or just dusted with icing sugar.
To make the perfect choux pastry, add the butter and water till it is boiling, add the flour and beat till smooth cook for a minute or two and remove from the heat cool a little and then add the beaten eggs bit by bit. Pipe the pastry into small balls and baked till crisp. The profiteroles are left to cool and then filled from the base with whipped cream . Finally the profiteroles are topped with a simple chocolate sauce by mixing together icing sugar, cocoa powder and water.
Profiteroles are a great dessert for any dinner party, these delicious profiteroles are filled with fresh cream and coated in chocolate sauce. You can make the profiteroles the day before and store then in an airtight container, fill them on the day of your party. Choux pastry profiteroles can be filled with pastry cream or different flavoured pastry creams, mousses and custards. Change the sauce for your profiteroles to white chocolate, caramel butterscotch or even a delicious fruit puree.
